Safety Resources for Moorages and Marinas

This page consists of resource information around current standpipe and dredging for our moorage and marinas.

Standpipe Inspection Resources

Standpipe Inspections

Standpipes must be inspected yearly and certified once every five years.  The harbor master, Sean Whalen has compiled a list of vendors who provide services for inspections, but there is no recommendation that is included with any service provider.  It is recommended to ask questions and a questionnaire is available, along with the list of vendors as a guideline of questions to consider asking.

In no particular order, the following service providers can inspect standpipes at moorages:

Pricing

Pricing can vary drastically for a standpipe inspection, depending on the vendor and the size/amount of standpipes at the moorage.  As a consumer, you should always ask about what services are included as part of the inspection, if there are a max of standpipes that are covered before additional fees are accrued, etc.  A single standpipe can cost as low as $275 without filing fees and some moors have received invoices over $4000 for higher quantity standpipe inspections.

Questions to Ask Vendors

  1. Please provide pricing for both hydrostatic pressure testing as well as the annual inspections?
  2. Please include filing of the inspection reports with the Portland Fire Department, as instructed?
  3. Please include blowout/winterization of water from the standpipes after the hydrostatic pressure testing is completed?
  4. Is there a also group discount for adjacent moorages?  Since this allows multiple jobs to be completed in the same day?
